M S30 - Medical Secretary Diploma Course

This short qualification course is suitable for those who already have word processing experience.  When attending KeyNet the duration for this Medical Secretary training course is 30 hours.  As a distance learning / home study course the suggested amount of study time is 30 hours which may be spread over a few weeks or months.

MC10 - Medical Secretary Advanced Diploma Course

Receive comprehensive training materials for future reference; the opportunity to gain the Medical Secretarial Diploma and the opportunity to gain up to 4 Certificates through OCR.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, graduates requiring skills for the modern business environment or for those already working within a medical environment. Beginners learn touch typing, audio typing and word processing. The course includes medical terminology and medical documents such as those used in hospitals and by GPs. Entry is available if required for up to 4 OCR (RSA) qualifications including Text Production at Levels 1 and 2, Medical Word Processing Level 2 and Medical Audio Transcription Level 2. MT60 - Medical Secretary Advanced Diploma Course with Medical Terminology

This course provides in depth training if you wish to find employment as a medical secretary. Comprehensive training materials are provided for future reference together with a presentation folder and Baillier's Nurses dictionary. Medical secretaries provide clerical and administrative support to medical staff in hospitals, private practice and general practice. Requirements for these posts include a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, secretarial experience of medical correspondence and audio typing skills.

Course pre-requisites
This course is ideally suitable for those who already have secretarial experience, although not essential. Good word processing skills and some typing skills are desirable. (If you do not have word processing skills let us know so that we can adapt the course for you).

Course details
The course includes training in medical terminology for the  Certificate in Medical Terminology and also follows the syllabus for the OCR* Medical Word Processing Level 2 (Intermediate) and OCR Medical Audio Transcription Level 2 (Intermediate). Comprehensive training is given in medical terminology, medical word processing and medical audio transcription of correspondence such as that used in hospitals and by GPs. The expected study time for this Medical Secretary training course is 60 hours, available through distance learning / home study  

Course completion
The course offers the opportunity to gain a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and to become experienced in the professional presentation of medical correspondence by means of word processing from typed and hand written scripts and audio tapes.

MT30 - Medical Terminology Course

This course provides in depth training if you wish to find employment as a medical secretary.  Comprehensive training materials are provided for future reference.  Medical secretaries provide clerical and administrative support to medical staff in hospitals, private practice and general practice. Requirements for these posts usually include a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, secretarial experience of medical correspondence and audio typing skills.  Students can choose to complete this course as an online course or as a postal course.

Course pre-requisites
This course is suitable for complete beginners and in particular for those wishing to change career in order to work in the NHS office departments or for those already working within the NHS.  Email Caron if you would like to see a sample exercise to see if this course is suitable for you.

Course details
Comprehensive training is given in medical terminology.  In addition, a course in Microsoft Word Advanced is included for those who wish to undertake it and improve their word processing skills.  There is no obligation for a student to complete the word processing module but it is supplied. MS35 – Medical Secretary Diploma - Advanced    Level 3 – 80 hours.

This course provides in depth training if you wish to find employment as a medical secretary. Comprehensive training materials are provided for future reference. Medical secretaries provide clerical and administrative support to medical staff in hospitals, private practice and general practice. Requirements for these posts include OCR Text Production Level 3 (or similar), excellent word processing skills and a good knowledge of medical terminology.

Course pre-requisites

This course is ideally suitable for those who already have some secretarial experience. Essential pre-requisites are: - 1) A good level of English Grammar, 2) The ability to type at 45 to 55 words per minute,
3) The ability to use Microsoft Word version 2002 (or similar) to a proficient level, including tables.
In addition it is beneficial if you have recently passed OCR Intermediate (RSA Level 2) in Word Processing and Text Production examinations.

Course details

The course follows the syllabus for the OCR Word Processing Level 3 (Advanced) and OCR Text Production Level 3 (Advanced). Comprehensive training is given in medical terminology, advanced word processing and text processing of a variety of correspondence. Also see attached list.
